\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Pray the Daily Invocation: \u00a0<i><b>Sacred Heart of Jesus, \u00a0I place my trust in you.\u00a0<\/b><\/i><\/p><p>Spend some time in <i><b>Silent reflection<\/b><\/i><\/p><p>Pray the <b><i>Novena Prayer:<\/i><\/b><\/p><p><b style=\"font-style: italic;\"><em>Lord <\/em>Jesus, the needs of your people open your heart in love for each of us. You care for us when we are lost, sympathize with us in loneliness, and comfort us in mourning; you are closest to us when we are weakest. You love us most when we are least; you forgive us most when we forgive ourselves least; and you call us to spread your love in whatever way we can.<\/b><\/p><p><b><i>Lord Jesus, your heart is moved with compassion when we are suffering, when we need your help, and when we pray for each other. I ask you to listen to my prayer during this Novena, and grant what I ask (mention your intention silently here).<\/i><\/b><\/p><p><b><i>If what I ask is not for my own good and the good of others, grant me what is best, that I may build up your kingdom of love in our world. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p><p>End with the <i><b>Sign of the Cross<\/b><\/i><\/p><div id=\"934E94AF_BA50_8F82_0796_A6C6DCC5005F\">\u00a0<\/div><div id=\"934E94AF_BA50_8F82_0796_A6C6DCC5005F\">\u00a0<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a2e1e89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a2e1e89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4><strong>Day 1 \u2013 What Do You Desire?<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>The next day, John was there again with two of his disciples.\u00a0 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, \u201cLook, the Lamb of God!\u201d\u00a0 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.\u00a0 Turning around, Jesus saw them and asked, \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d They said, \u201cRabbi, where are you staying?\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u201cCome, \u201che replied, \u201cand you will see.\u201d (John 1.35-39)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Jesus addresses the same question to all of us at the beginning of this novena: \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d St. Augustine said that all our desires are really a longing for God in disguise; where there is real desire there is prayer. So be at peace in your desire, you are already praying.<\/p><h4><strong>Day 2 \u2013 What Does God Desire?<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: \u2018<\/em><\/strong>So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; search and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.\u2019 (Luke 11.9-10)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>St. Augustine said, \u2018For yourself you have made us, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.\u2019 A writer changed this sentence to the following: \u201cGod\u2019s heart is restless until we rest in Him.\u201d Our God is vulnerable to our free response. We long to be present with Him and, most importantly, He longs to be with each of us.<\/p><h4><strong>Day 3 \u2013 When I Find Prayer Difficult<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Scripture: \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>The Spirit helps us in our weakness: for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is in the mind of the Spirit. (Romans 8.26-27)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>St. Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of Lisieux once said that love was her vocation in life. Never was this vocation tested more than in the last nine months of her life as she lay dying with tuberculosis. She wrote a note to her sister C\u00e9line \u2013\u2018Here is great love, to love Jesus without feeling the sweetness of his love \u2013that is love pushed to the point of heroism.\u2019<\/p><h4><strong>Day 4 \u2013 How Do We Look At Each Other?<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Jesus looking at him, loved him and said, \u2018You lack one thing: go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.\u2019 When he heard this he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions. (Mark 10.21-22)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>\u2018A person is enlightened not when they get an idea but when someone looks at them.\u2019 How we look at another has tremendous consequences for self-esteem. The Sacred Heart looks at each of us with deep love, understanding and compassion. We are called to look at ourselves and others in the same way.<\/p><h4><strong>Day Five \u2013 Has No One Condemned You?<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: <\/em><\/strong>Jesus straightened up and said to her, \u2018Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?\u2019 She said \u2018no one, sir.\u2019 And Jesus said, \u2018Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.\u2019 (John 1.35-37)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>You do not have to be good before God will love you; you do not have to repent before you will be absolved by God. It is all the other way around. If you are good, it is because God\u2019s love has already made you so; if you want to be forgiven, that is because God is forgiving you.<\/p><h4><strong>Day Six \u2013 Honesty In Prayer<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong>Gospel:\u00a0 <\/strong>Martha said to Jesus, \u2018Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.\u2019 Jesus said to her, \u2018Your brother will rise again. Martha said to him, \u2018I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.\u2019 (John 11.17-24)<\/p><p><strong>For Reflection: <\/strong>St. Ignatius Loyola said that we should always speak to Jesus in prayer just as one close friend would speak to another. Don\u2019t be afraid to express your real feelings to Jesus \u2013anger, hurt, joy, sorrow, etc. When you\u2019ve made your complaint or expressed your joy, don\u2019t forget one thing: listen for God\u2019s response! It may come in surprising ways.<\/p><h4><strong>Day Seven \u2013 What Strange Friends You Have Lord!<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: <\/em><\/strong>\u2018But I say to you that listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.\u2019 (Luke 6.27-28)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>You know the old saying, \u2018Show me your friends and I\u2019ll tell you who you are\u2019? Well, Jesus had the strangest set of friends: a hated tax collector; Simon the Zealot\u2014a revolutionary; women in prostitution and \u2018public sinners\u2019. Maybe we are not such bad company for Jesus after all!<\/p><h4><strong>Day Eight \u2013 Peace be with you.<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: <\/em><\/strong>While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, \u2018Peace be with you.\u2019 They were startled and terrified, and thought they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, \u2018Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see, for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.\u2019 (Luke 24.36-39)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>Peace; Look; Listen; Go. Jesus greets the apostles with that soothing word, \u2018Shalom\u2019 (peace)\u2014it means I wish you the fullness of well-being of mind and body and soul. He then invites them to look at his hands and sides. He encourages them to listen to what the scriptures say about him and then to go and preach the Good News that he is Risen.<\/p><h4><strong>Day Nine \u2013 Thank You Lord Jesus!<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><em>Gospel: <\/em><\/strong>Then Jesus asked, \u2018Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?\u2019 (Luke 17.17-18)<\/p><p><strong><em>For Reflection: <\/em><\/strong>In the Old Testament the word \u2018praise\u2019 has only one object \u2013 God! In the Psalms, to praise is to live; not praising is the same as not living, not living the life which is God\u2019s gift, to be returned in praise. A Jewish rabbi has written, \u2018It is difficult to feel depressed when you remember fairly constantly that life is a gift. Faith teaches us to make a blessing over life. Making a blessing over life is the best way of turning life into a blessing!\u2019<\/p><div id=\"934E94AF_BA50_8F82_0796_A6C6DCC5005F\">\u00a0<\/div><div id=\"934E94AF_BA50_8F82_0796_A6C6DCC5005F\">\u00a0<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-16 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a464311\" data-id=\"a464311\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sacred Heart Novena Sacred Heart Novena Special Presentations Over the next nine days, Fr.
